History: The Fortaleza Health and Fitness Educational Center is a community based organization created in 2000 by Carmen Rivera, Jose Rivera and Uriel Rendon to encourage and educate the North Philadelphia Latino area residents to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
The Goal: To provide health and wellness education to this underserved population by providing opportunities for our community to passionately embrace a healthier lifestyle through motivational forums and other learning tools to promote and improve their health and well-being every day. This will be achieved in measurable programs such as, community health fairs, speaker series, weight management programs, counseling services, healthy diet training, and targeted Latino health improvement marketing campaigns in all Latino media outlets. FHFEC will work with sponsors, grant providers and community partners in developing measurable positive outcomes.

Mission: FHFEC provides health and wellness solutions with a culturally sensitive staff that meets the needs of the urban underserved multicultural North Philadelphia community by providing education programs that motivate people to adopt healthy lifestyles.
Core Principles: FHFHC enables us to empower our community with the necessary education and exercise to combat obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes, which are “Killing our Community” • To be a champion of health and wellness of residents of the North Philadelphia area. • To make best use of resources through community and health provider partnerships. • To regularly assess the organization’s effectiveness in meeting its mission.
